단/복수 명사 정리! police는 복수명사, family는 단수명사?

오늘은 헷갈리는 단수명사와 복수명사를 정리해볼까 해요!

 

 

 

police는 복수명사,

family는 단수명사라는걸 아시나요?

 

 

주의해야 할 단/복수 명사들을 알아보아요!

 

 

 

 

 

 

[ 두 부분이 모여 하나를 이루는 명사 = 복수 ]

 

*두 개의 부분이 모여 하나가 되는

이런 명사들은 항상 복수라서

셀 때는 a/an이나 숫자를 쓸 수 없고,

a pair of 나 two pairs of 를 써서 표현해요.

 

 

 

jeans

청바지

 

 

These jeans are torn at the knee.

이 청바지는 무릎 부분이 찢어져 있다.

 

I bought a pair of jeans for 10 dollars at a clearance sale.

나는 재고정리 세일에서 청바지를 10달러에 샀다.

 

 

 

 

glasses

안경

 

 

Your glasses are on crooked.

네 안경이 비뚤어졌어.

 

a pair of glasses with tinted lenses.

색 렌즈를 끼운 안경 하나.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[ 항상 복수로 쓰는 명사 ]

 

 

 

belongings

소지품

 

 

He packed the suitcase with his belongings.

그는 트렁크에 소지품을 꾸렸다.

 

There are definitely personal belongings.

이건 확실히 개인 소장품이네요.

 

 

 

 

surroundings

환경

 

 

She felt uneasy in the unfamiliar surroundings.

그녀는 익숙치 않은 환경에 있어서 마음이 불안했다.

 

I think surroundings are very important.

주변 환경도 매우 중요한 것 같아요.

 

*is가 아닌 are로 쓰여진 걸 알 수 있어요.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

[ 여러명을 뜻하지만 단수로 쓰이는 명사 ]

 

 

 

family

가족

 

His devotion to his wife and family is touching.

아내와 가족에 대한 그의 헌신은 감동적이다.

 

 

 

team

팀

 

The team was beset by injury all season.

그 팀은 시즌 내내 부상에 시달렸다.

 

 

 

 

crowd

군중, 무리

 

The crowd is listening to his speech.

군중들은 그의 연설을 듣고 있다.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But,

 

' police ' 는 복수명사!

 

The police are guardians of law and order.

경찰은 법과 질서의 수호자이다.

 

 

 

*경찰관 한 명을 칭할 땐?

 

A police officer was directing the traffic.

경찰관 한 명이 교통정리를 하고 있었다.

정확히 짚고 넘어가니 분명해지는 것도 있네요!

 

앞으로는 a를 쓸 수 있는 것과 없는것,
